About CookBooky

Put simply, CookBooky is the Internet's only, 100% free, 100% private, web-cookbook. A place to store all of your recipes, where you can access them from any Internet connected device (computer, tablet or smartphone), without sharing them with the world. Yet, with the flexibility to share them with whomever you desire, with the click of a button.

History

One summer day in 2012, web-application developer and database architect, Josh Richards was preparing dinner with his lovely wife and two daughters when they began searching for a recipe that was given to them by a friend, a few years prior. Written neatly on an index card, they could swear they tucked it in between the pages of the family's old Betty Crocker® cookbook. Despite their frantic searching, they were unable to locate this recipe. Disappointed by the loss of this wonderful recipe (it was a Mango-Papaya salsa to go on some beautifully grilled Chilean Sea Bass), they began to ponder why there wasn't a better way to store personal or family recipes, in a safe, private manner that would allow access to them from any of our web-enabled devices.

This is when his wife took to her web browser, trying to find an offering to fit this bill. Much to their amazement, such a site or web-application did not exist. Sure, there were numerous "recipe web sites" out there, that "share" literally thousands of recipes, but there wasn't one that allowed you to store, and keep private, all your recipes. If they wanted to share their grandmother's "secret spaghetti sauce" with the world, these types of sites would be just fine. But they didn't. They simply wanted a way to store a personal recipe without donating it to the world. Is this too much to ask?

As you can probably surmise, this is how the concept of CookBooky came about. It sure would be great if we had a place to safely store our recipes online, in a centralized manner, so we could retrieve them whenever and from where ever we needed to, by simply using any Internet connected device. A place where our personal recipes are keep private; not contributed or shared for the world to see. But yet, with the flexibility to allow our private recipes to be shared with friends or family, as we define. So, with the wonderful support of his wife and daughters, Josh set out to author just such a site...and that's how CookBooky was born.

How Does it Work?

Again, CookBooky couldn't be simpler. You sign-up using your email address and within minutes you can begin entering your precious recipes into your own, personal and private cookbook. There is no limit to the type or amount of recipes you can store in your cookbook.

Once you've entered your recipes, you are done! Cookbooky will permanently store your recipes and will have them available for you, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Just point your favorite web browser to www.cookbooky.com, log in and start cooking!

Then, if later down the line, your best friend, your sister or your neighbor ask for a copy of one of your recipes and you are OK sharing it with them, you can simply pull up the recipe in CookBooky and click the share button. You enter their email address and voila, a perfectly formatted copy of your recipe, complete with ingredient list, step by step directions and even a photo will be delivered to their inbox. Or, if they don't have an email address, you could always go "old-school" and just print out a beautifully formatted copy of the recipe, and hand it off to them.

What's more, if the person you want to share a recipe with, is a CookBooky cook, you can simply link their account to your recipe as a "share". It's all just a mouse click (or finger tap) away.
